Why We Use Screws, Not Spikes! Screws have maximum holding power, more than 700 lbs. opposed to 250 lbs for nails. Wood fibers do tend to return to their original position after a screw or nail is driven into them. Nails push the wood fibers down, while screws pull them up. As the fibers try to return to their original position, the nail gets pushed out and the screw gets pulled tighter. This in turn prevents leaks! |
